Four annotation tools are provided:

Arrows, pencil shapes and Angles can have text labels and have colors assigned to them. You do so using the "Edit Shape Properties" dialog, which you can invoke by double-clicking the annotation object.

Enter text in the Label text box to provide a label, click the color box to specify a custom color and the Change Font button to set a custom font and size.

You can reposition an annotation by clicking and dragging it. Delete annotation by clicking it to select it, then pressing the delete key.

All annotations are saved with Save Screen Arrangements and Bookmarks (and thus restored when redisplayed).

You can Copy and Paste shapes by selecting them (click on the shape) and then choosing Copy from the Edit menu, click on a target window/view and then choose Paste. You can use the main menu bar menus or right-click on an Annotation object to use its contextual menu. The standard Copy/Paste hotkeys work as well.

Similarly, you can duplicate an Annotation object by selecting it and choosing the Edit menu command Duplicate, or pressing the corresponding hot-key (command/control-D).

Arrow Tool

To use the Arrow Tool, click the tool to select it, then click (and hold) where you wish the arrow head to be, while still pressing the mouse button, drag until you have the length of arrow line you wish, then release the mouse button.

This will result in a selected (with square block handles) drawn arrow object.

To edit the Arrow shape's properties, double click on the shape to see the Edit Shape Properties dialog:

As with the other shapes (and ROI object), you can reposition an Arrow shape by clicking on it and dragging to the new position. You can also resize by clicking on a handle and dragging to the new size.

To delete, click to select, then press the Delete key.

Text Tool

To use the Text tool, select the tool then click and drag to create a text box.

You can then type to enter text. To complete the text object, press return or click outside of the box.

Edit an existing Text box by double-clicking on it and entering/editing text.

You can reposition a Text box by clicking it and dragging to the new position. To resize. click to select, then click and drag on a handle to resize. Text boxes will resize automatically to accomodate their content text.

You can edit the Text shape's properties to change its font and size. Since clicking or double-clicking allows you to edit the text, to display the Edit Shape Properties dialog for a Text box, you will need to right-click on it to see its contextual menu and choose the Edit Shape menu item.

To select a text box for deletion, simply click on it to select it:

and press the Delete key.

Pencil Tool

To use the Pencil tool, click its icon to select it, then simply click, hold and drag to position and draw the shape.

You cannot resize a Pencil shape, but you can relocate it by clicking and dragging.

As with the other Annotation shapes, you can assign a label, change the color and set a custom font/size for the Pencil object, using its Edit Shape Properties dialog.

Angle Tool

To use the Angle tool, click on the tool icon to select it, then click and drag at the point you wish to draw the angle. Release the mouse button when it is the size and angle you wish.

The shape displays the shape itself as well as the degrees represented by the drawn angle.

You can resize and adjust the angle by selecting the object to display its handles, then dragging the handles as you wish to re-shape the Angle object.

Again, you can use the Edit Shape Properties dialog to assign a custom color, label and font/size.
